GAP

The Grassroot Activators Programmes (GAP) supports young people from 12-30 years old from underserved communities across the city to be the changes they want to see and be. Closing the gap on opportunities for everyday young people to create social change and realise future opportunities in education, employment or enterprise based on their interests and passions

Mentoring

Supporting young people with youth and community work mentors or young leader peer mentors 1:1 or in targeted small groups with social and emotional needs, at the edge of care and custody or involved in serious and violent crime

Detached youth work

Our Detached Youth Work team are out in multiple areas across South Bristol, every week, all year round, come rain or shine, supporting young people with informal education from underserved communities where they choose to hang out, on the streets, car parks, playgrounds and green spaces…

Community projects

Consultation with young people and their wider communities has resulted in a diverse programme of youth and community led projects, based on their identified wants and needs. Over many years the various community projects have been shaped into 3 themes: CREATIVITY, SPORT and NATURE.

The Bristol Birdman

The Bristol Birdman supports young people and their communities to fly!

On 15th June 2025 the Grassroot Communities team of staff and volunteers successfully delivered ‘the most well attended event that the west end of the Bristol Harbour has seen in 30 year’. Thousands lined the harbour to watch, it was electric! If you want to be part of this spectacular event in future register your interest today. We are looking for business teams, youth and community groups and corporate sponsors. All profits go towards delivering our diverse programme of work.

What Really Matters podcast

Providing a platform for young people from underserved communities to talk about what really matter to them, amplifying their voices without adult direction or agenda. The Professional Edition talks with a wide range of adult guests about things that have worked well or could be improved in the past and present, to help inform new ideas and approaches to better support young people and communities in the future.

Events, training and enterprise

We are experienced, skilled and innovative facilitators in the youth and community, education and nature sectors – we want to showcase and share this! We can develop bespoke training based on identified wants and needs. Provide inspirational in person or online presentations and ‘Evenings with GC’ where young people share their life changing stories and journeys and Grassroot Communities clearly demonstrates Who, What, Why and How we support young people and communities to thrive. We are operating in challenging economic and social times and are open to entrepreneurial opportunities that can support our needed more than ever work.
